​Molly Maid is a residential cleaning service franchise that originated in Canada in 1979. It was founded by Adrienne and Chris Stringer, who believed that busy homeowners would appreciate a professional cleaning service to manage household chores. The company's name was inspired by the character Molly Brown from the 1964 film "The Unsinkable Molly Brown."


In 1984, entrepreneur David McKinnon introduced Molly Maid to the United States, establishing the first American franchise in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The service quickly gained popularity, leading to rapid expansion across the country. Today, Molly Maid operates over 450 individually owned franchises throughout the U.S.


Beyond its cleaning services, Molly Maid established the Ms. Molly Foundation in 1996. This non-profit organization supports victims of domestic violence by increasing public awareness and providing assistance to local agencies that aid victims in the communities served by Molly Maid.
